PRECISELY because Steampunk is so much more than literature, it has been important for us to find a Guest of Honor whose main focus lies “on the other things steampunk”, but still matches and supplements Lavie Tidhar´s literary contributions to steampunk.
Jeannette Ng, novelist, hair wizard, game designer is originally from Hong Kong but now lives in Durham, UK. Her MA in Medieval and Renaissance Studies fed into an interest in medieval and missionary theology, which in turn spawned her love for writing gothic fantasy with a theological twist. She runs live-roleplay games and is active within the costuming community, running a popular blog: Mealstromic Insight, thoughts and theories on game design for live roleplay. We will be talking with her about LARP, about setting hair, about making costumes, and about the other elements of steampunk aesthetics. But also about her outstanding Victorian gothic first novel: Under the Pendulum Sun (Angry Robot 2017), that gave her a nomination for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer 2018 (yes, the book is THAT good!)
Now go read her outstanding and different book, read more about her at Jeannette´s homepage and/or follow her interesting discussions on Twitter @Jeannette_Ng!
Then come meet her at Fantasticon 2018 in Copenhagen !
